Numicon & Mathematics

From Reception to Year 2 we use a wonderful resource called Numicon which really enables the children to build an understanding of the concept of number. For more information please click here: Numicon at Home.

Number Day

Number Day.jpg

We will be taking part in the NSPCC’s Number Day on Friday 7th February. It is a great way to celebrate maths while raising money for charity. Your child can come to school wearing an item of clothing with a number on it. This could be anything from a sports shirt to a costume made at home. Please bring £1 to donate. During the day we will be taking part in lots of fun maths activities!

Mathletics

Mathletics is an online learning tool with hundreds of curriculum-based games, activities and tutorials. Each child has their own login and password to access content for their year group. If you are unsure of your child’s login details please speak to their class teacher.

You can log in here.

SE London Maths Hub

We are part of the South-East London Maths Hub. The Hub is sponsored by the Department for Education and is a leadership network of teachers aiming to develop and spread excellent practice for the benefit of all pupils across South-East London. Miss Brown (Reception teacher and Maths Leader) and Mrs Christian (Year 1 teacher) are taking part in a two year programme aiming to develop ‘teaching for mastery’ at our school. Mastery involves developing deep and lasting understanding of mathematical procedures and concepts.

Phonics

We use the Letters and Sounds scheme for teaching phonics. We find this a systematic programme and a great basis for teaching children the phonics children require for reading and writing. We use our teaching expertise and other resources to bring these lessons to life whilst following a format for teaching that enables all children to make progress.

Reading Schemes

We use several reading schemes and series of books. For Guided Reading in class we plan mainly from the Rigby Star and Big Cat series of books.
